The saw (10) comprises a base (14), a workpiece support (18), a cutting station (22), a cutting unit (54) with a motor (74), an arbor (66) on which the saw blade is rotatably mounted about axis (70) driven by the motor, and a guard (86) movable between two positions. A mounting (90) secures the cutting unit (54) on the base (14) actuator between the base and the guard to progressively move the guard toward a non-surrounding position. - The actuator includes a lost motion member permitting the guard to be moved manually to the non-surrounding position. A lock-out appts. is automatically contactable by the actuator.
