The metal plate bending machine is used for mfr. of long thick-walled pipes. The workpiece consists of a flat, elongated plate (6) which may be heated to 800 deg. C or cold rolled. The plate rests on two longitudinal bars (2,3) parallel to the long sides (11,12) and is bent by a heavily loaded narrow wheel (14) applied to the top surface midway between the bars. The rolling operation is repeated many times, and the plate may be moved sideways by a small amount between each pass of the wheel until the plate is rolled up into a tube with a narrow gap between its edges, which may be then welded together.
