The invention relates to a method for the in vitro diagnosis of a prior infection in a subject by mycoplasms, characterized by contacting a biological fluid taken from said subject with mycoplasms in a nutrient medium authorizing their development in conditions allowing an interaction between said mycoplasms, particularly Mycoplasma fermentans in the form of mycoplasms, and antibodies against said mycoplasms, optionally present in said biological fluid. A positive response may optionally be correlated with a prognosis of seropositivity, even AIDS.
