[Also in Division F2] An upper roller for a drafting mechanism in a spinning machine includes a pair of roller bearings carried by a stationary spindle 1, each bearing being constituted by two rows of rollers 5, an outer race 10 carrying a sleeve 14 with a resilient cover 15, a cage 13 of the comb type, stationary collars 6, 7 engaging with annular grooves 2, 3 in the spindle and a stationary collar 11 having a plurality of studs 12 engaging with holes in the outer race. The collar 7 is provided with sealing flanges 18, 19; and the spindle is provided with a groove 4 containing a member 20 for attachment to a loading arm (not shown in the drawings). The collars 6, 7, 11 and the member 20 may be made of a synthetic plastics material. The rollers 5 may be replaced by balls, Fig. 5 (not shown); and the collar 7 may include a metallic annular-disc of L-shaped profile in cross-section, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) in place of the flange 19 to protect the collar and provide a cutting edge, which prevents fibres entering the bearing. The grooves 3, 4 may be replaced by knurling on the spindle, Fig. 4 (not shown); and a single of row of rollers may replace the rollers 5, Fig. 6 (not shown). The spindle may have extensions (23), Fig. 3 (not shown), and the collar 6 may be provided with a sealing flange (25). |
