Aminothioethers of formula (I) and their salts of formula (II) are new, where R2, R3 = H or (un)satd. (a)cyclic carbon- or heteroatom-contg. radical; or NR2R3 = (un)satd. cyclic gp. opt. contg. heteroatoms; R1 = divalent hydrocarbon radical, which is (un)satd., (a)cyclic and opt. contains heteroatoms; or NR1R2 = cyclic gp., which is (un)satd. and opt. contains heteroatoms; Sub arises from a precursor Sub-OH, where Sub-OH = R-OH or a polyhydroxylated opt. cyclic molecule, either allowing selective activation of one hydroxyl site or allowing protection of n-1 OH gps.; R = radical, opt. satd., opt. cyclic. More specifically, Sub-OH = a mono- or poly-saccharide, glycerol or an itol (opt. protected); esp. glucose, 1,2:5,6-diacetoneglucose, 1,2-mono-acetoneglucose, galactose, diacetonegalactose, fructose, 2,3:4,5-diacetonefructose, 1,2:4,5-diacetonefructose, 1,2-monoacetonefructose, mannose, 2,3:5,6-diacetonemannose, 2,3-monoacetonemannose, allose, 1,2:5,6-diacetone allose, 1,2-monoacetoneallose, xylose, 1,2-monoacetonexylose, xylitol, 2,3:4,5-diacetonexylitol, glycerol or solketal. USE - (I) and (II) are useful as immunomodulators, immunostimulants, and immunoregulators in the treatment of infections, bacterial, viral, fungal, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases and as radioprotectors.
