Butt welding machine for sheets of polymers from polypropylene, polyethylene, PVC, PVdf etc. has a two-part clamping table (preferably divided along its centre line) with opened or closed joint for the weld position; a locking beam is positioned over each part of the table to hold plastic components there under pressure; operating devices beneath the table have an orientating and heated blade which former positions the plastic components from underneath and moves to/from the open joint; the blade can enter the joint gap and thereby heat the components when the joint is closed; the blade can be dropped down on to a frame and pressure members press together the components under preset adjustable pressure for a pre-set/adjustable time. One half of the table is fixed to the machine frame; the other half has low friction guides on the frame so that the joint position can be opened/closed by pressure members which move one half to/from the other. Angle arms swivel the orientating blade beneath the moving half of the table; the heating blade and pressure cylinder are mounted on a low friction guide on the main frame and between stops across the direction of operation. ADVANTAGE - The machine design is simple and inexpensive. It functions at least as well as existing designs.
