Monoclonal antibodies which bind to the ganglioside IV<3>NeuAc, III<6>NeuAc-LcOse4Cer (3',6'-isoLD1), are disclosed, along with methods of making the same and diagnostic and therapeutic methods of using the same. Particularly preferred are monoclonal antibodies which bind to a 3',6'-isoLD1 epitope selected from the group consisting of NeuAc alpha 2-3Gal beta 1-3NeuAc alpha 2-6GlcNAc and NeuGc alpha 2-3Gal beta 1-3NeuGc alpha 2-6GlcNAc.
