The compounds of the present invention are deoxy disubstituted or dideoxy disubstituted derivatives of (alpha)-D-mannofuranoside and (beta)-L-gulofuranoside hexoses which exhibit anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activity. The methods of preparation, pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds and methods of treating inflammatory and/or autoimmune disorders employing the compounds are disclosed.
