Microbial cultures for degrading polycyclic aromatics - comprising two Pseudomonas strains, esp. for tar oil detoxification
摘要

Mixed microbial cultures for degrading polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, esp. in tar oils, comprise two Pseudomonas strains with growth rates differing by a factor of at least 2. Also claimed are Pseudomonas putida Teer A (DSM 7248) and Pseudomonas sp. Teer B (DSM 7249). Also claimed is a method for selecting tar-oil-degrading mixed cultures, comprising: (a) mechanically emulsifying tar oil in an aq. soln. of yeast extract and/or peptone; (b) adding activated sludge and/or soil samples to the emulsion; (c) continuously fermenting the emulsion under aerobic conditions while increasing the tar oil content in stages; and (d) adapting the preferentially growing culture to growth on tar oil as the sole C source. USE - The cultures may be used to treat wood or other materials contaminated or impregnated with tar oil.
