<p>An in vitro method of screening and diagnosing patients for cancers at an early stage for the identification of premalignant tissue changes is described. In this in vitro method, a cell preparation is prepared from a tissue sample; a calcium probe, e.g., a fluorescent dye, is added to the sample; an electronic test signal is provided that is representative of intracellular CA2+ concentration in the probed sample; and the test signal is compared with the reference signal representative of intracellular CA2+ concentration in normal tissue. Apparatus for carrying out this method is also described.</p> |
