The ignition system has an alignment insert (23) locating a connector socket (21) onto a transistor pack (25), with the pack aligned onto an ignition coil (1). The transistor pack is separately sealed and the whole system is sealed by a second plastic injection process to become a sealed unit. The alignment insert has a locating profile (24) onto which the shaped socket (22) of the connector socket is pressed. The mating sections are plastic moulded. The transistor pack is protected by a cover (27) to separate the two types of sealing plastic, and to cover differences in thermal shrinkage of the two setting plastics.
