The crankcase has a suction aperture openable and closable by a throttle element (12) independent of the cylinder piston position. The crankcase outlet contains at least one feed line (9,9') to each cylinder head. In each feed line a second throttle element is fitted acting simultaneously with the first one. Pref. a through valve (12a,13a) is mounted downstream of the first and/or upstream of the second throttle element. The through valve is typically of the flutter type. The engine may have two coacting pistons in boxer type design. USE/ADVANTAGE - Facility for single cylinder design of four-stroke IC engine with low idle speed.
