The battery has a hollow cylindrically designed sealing plug (1) screwed securely in a tubular opening (4) of a top lid (3) of the battery. The plug extends with its lower end until it reaches a tubular opening (7) of a lower lid (6). Each cell has ventilation openings to one of the gas collection spaces. A first ventilation opening is formed by an annular gap (11, 12) between the plug wall and the tubular opening of the lower lid.
