<p>The powered winch handle (1) of the present invention is useful for operating rotary winches (W), particularly drum winches. The winch handle (1) is driven by a compact DC electric motor (6) within the handle (2) and fits with the winch through at least one drive stem. The DC power source for this drive motor (6) can be, for example, a removable, battery recharging pack (40) or a shipboard DC power source to which the powered winch handle (1) is connected by a waterproof electrical line (3). The electric motor (6) drives rotation of the drive stem through a transmission assembly (10), such as a gear train, that reduces the rate of rotation from that of the electric motor (6) specifically to the range of about 10 to 130 rpms, the rate at which these rotary winches (W) are usually rotated by manual labor.</p> |
