Prodn. of composite bricks or slabs (I), consisting of a support (II) made from a compsn. (III) contg. cement and/or lime and a ready-made decorative cover plate (IV) or silicate, involves moulding (III) in the plastic state in a mould contg. (IV). The novelty is that when (I) have reached the green stage strength of a cement concrete compsn. or a lime-sandstone compsn. has been pressed, they are hardened with steam under pressure in an autoclave at 150-230 deg. C. Pref. (III) consists of a normal, porous, glass fibre-reinforced or lightweight cement concrete mix or lime-sandstone mix. (IV) consists of natural stone contg. silicate, pref. granite, a ceramic tile or a glass plate. (V) is milk of lime or cement size, pref. applied to a layer of fibre or fabric.
