An electronic printing apparatus (10) employs a digitally controlled toner conveyor (13) and large scale integrated circuits (ICs) (90) controlling write electrodes (66) to print monocomponent toners (70, 71, 72, 73, 74) on plain paper (19) in a single pass. The ICs convert high level image information into toner controlling pulses (36, 37). Pixel intensity is programmed by associating a counted number of packets (34, 49) of toner with each level of pixel depth.
