PRODUCTION OF PROPENE DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing a natural substance and a physiologically active substance in high yield and in high selectivity by treating a formic ester with a palladium catalyst comprising a specific constituent component. CONSTITUTION:A formic ester of formula I or formula II (R<1> and R<2> are organic group; R<3> is H or lower ester) is treated with a palladium catalyst in a solvent (e.g. benzene) or in a solventless state at -10 to 40 deg.C to give a propene derivative of formula III. In the reaction, the palladium catalyst comprising a palladium salt (e.g. acetylacetonatopalladium) and a trialkylphosphine (e.g. tributylphosphine) in the ratio of 1:1-1:2 is used. The amount of the catalyst used is 0.0001-1 equivalent based on the compound of formula I or formula II.
