PURPOSE:To pick up a three-dimensional data by transmitting or receiving an ultrasonic wave through a gap of an object shielding ultrasonic waves such as rib. CONSTITUTION:A vibrator unit 26 which contains array vibrators arranged along a wave transmitting/receiving surface is scanned being oscillated with an arc scanning mechanism on a virtual rotating shaft as axis center. A scan surface S which is formed by an electronic scanning of the array vibrators turns centered on the virtual rotating shaft 32 by a mechanical scanning of the vibrator unit to form an three-dimension area V for picking up three- dimensional ultrasonic waves. This enables the transmitting or receiving of an ultrasonic wave through a gap of an object shielding ultrasonic waves such as rib by setting the virtual rotating shaft 32 near the center between the ribs, for instance.
