Method for acquiring network knowledge about a digital transmission network

Digital signal links routed through central computers cannot be reconstructed within the individual nodes (A-F) after a computer failure, making emergency operation impossible. The process of the invention makes it possible for each node concerned to maintain or re-establish the original or instantaneous route of the digital signal link, or independently to establish a link or an equivalent circuit. At the transmitting node at the beginning of the digital signal link, the digital signal is provided in each transmission direction with an identification code which is added to at each subsequent connecting-through and transmission node. This identification code can be analyzed at each of these of these nodes. The process is applicable to any digital transmission network with computer-controlled nodes.
