In hydrocarbon tratment process, a compsn. contg. (by wt.) 40-80 % paraffins, 0.5-7% naphthenes and 6.45% aromatics and having max. distn, temp. of 70-90 deg.C is hydrogenated and then isomerised and a 5-6C fraction is added before and/or after the hydrogenation. Mixt. pref. comprises 10-90 wt.% of total charge after addn. of 5-6C fraction. Hydrogenation is carried out at 100-400 deg.C, 1-60 bar using charge flow rate of 1-50 vols. per vol. of catalyst per hour (vvh) and H2 flow rate of 1-3000 vvh, over Ni, Pd and/or Pt. Isomerisation is carried out in presence of H2 at 150-300 deg.C, H2 partial pressure of atmospheric to 70 bar, using charge flow rate of 0.2-10 vvh and H2/charge molar ratio of .5-10, over mordenite (Si/Al atomic ratio 5-50) and a group VIII metal, pref. Ni, Pd and/or Pt. 5-6C fraction is a direct distn. wt.
