The resonator generates a stable fundamental mode beam profile with an output side radially dependent reflection profile and at least one quality switch element.The number of reflective surfaces is minimised to provide the smallest possible concurrent partial resonators. At least part of the boundary surfaces (18,19) of the resonator and/or the end surfaces (14,15,16,17,23,24) bounding the lasing medium are precisely aligned parallel to each other and no interfering further modes are formed in the laser operation. The laser is pref. a flash-lamp pumped solid state laser with a Nd:YAG rod as laser medium.
