A method for widening the concrete deck of an existing bridge consists of placing a precast prestressed or reinforced concrete beam (8) longitudinally under the deck, with precast reinforced concrete slabs (14) simply supported by the beam (8) and angle brackets (16), fixed to the existing deck. The total width of the two precast slabs is approximately equal to the gap between the existing decks with each preventing the other from lateral sliding. The width of the supporting beam (8) is less than the gap between the decks and it is placed by crane. USE/ADVANTAGES - No risk of unacceptable stresses nor dangerous level differentials resulting afterwards.
