PURPOSE:To provide a flame-resistant cooling medium evaporating under contact with water to cool the water into ice, and not decomposing the ozone layer. CONSTITUTION:The cooling medium used for producing ice and not liable to decompose the ozone layer contains normal perfluoropentane, cycloperfluoropentane, isoperfluoropentane or fluorohydropentane, their mixture, or the mixture of pentane with the above-mentioned compounds in an amount sufficient for the flame retardation as a main component. For example, the medium is mixed with water at a pressure sufficiently higher than the saturated pressure Po of the cooling medium at 0 deg.C and subsequently blown out into the inner space of a water tank at a pressure lower than the saturated pressure Po, thus freezing the water with the evaporation latent heat of the cooling medium. The cooling medium is suitable for air conditioner ice heat- accumulating systems, direct contact type ice-producing device, direct contact type cooling water-producing devices, etc. |
