PURPOSE:To provide a damping force variable shock absorber capable of controlling extension side damping force independently while fixing contraction side damping force small and a damping force variable shock absorber control device to control extension side damping force according to various travel conditions. CONSTITUTION:A contraction side main passage 41 having a large passage area is arranged in a main piston 20, and contraction side damping force is fixed small. A lower end part of a piston rod A30 is formed in a cylindrical shape, and a control valve 63 and an extension side exclusive passage 57 are arranged in the cylinder. The extension side exclusive passage 57 is communicated with an upper chamber 2a by opening and closing a plate like check valve 59 arranged in a piston rod C36 formed integrally with the piston rod A30. Since an extension side exclusive hole 67 is formed in the control valve 63, a sub passage 50 and the extension side exclusive passage 57 in the control valve 63 can be communicated with or intercepted from each other by rotating the control valve 63, so that vibration damping and vibration control can be reconciled practically. |
