HYDROGENATION

摘要

PURPOSE:To provide a hydrogenation method exhibiting a high conversion into acetophenone and a styrene and a high selectivity for the objective ethylbenzene and sec-butylbenzene and reduced in loss of phenol and methyl ethyl ketone coexisting as useful components. CONSTITUTION:A mixture solution by-produced in a process for synthesizing phenol and methyl ethyl ketone through acid decomposition of sec- butylbenzenehydroperoxide obtained by oxidation of sec-butylbenzene and containing acetophenone and a styrene is hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst containing copper and chromium so as to convert acetophenone and the styrene respectively to ethylbenzene and sec-butylbenzene.
