PURPOSE:To produce a liq. crystal display device having enhanced sealing strength and contrast. CONSTITUTION:At least one of a pair of opposite substrates holding a liq. crystal compsn. 5 between them is made of a color filter 1 obtd. by laminating light shielding layers 7, 8, a colored layer 9, an overcoat layer 10 and a transparent electrode 11 on a transparent substrate 6 and the surface of the transparent electrode 11 is wrinkled.
