PURPOSE:To execute ultrasonic inspection efficiently and accurately irrespective of the shape of a cast article by providing a probe in a tapered vertical water tube having an inside diameter reduced downward, by holding the cast article with a gap from the lower end of the tube and by supplying running water downward from the probe. CONSTITUTION:A cast article 2 to be inspected is set on a cast article holding part 8 and spacing L between a lower sleeve 4 and the holding part 8 is adjusted in accordance with the size of the cast article 2. A valve 15a of a water supply pipe 15 is closed and water in a drain tank 11 is supplied into a reserve tank 10 through a return pipe 14 by a pump 13, stopped at a prescribed level and left as it stands for some time. Then air mixed in the water stored in the tank 10 becomes 6 bubbles which rise to be removed. The water is supplied by opening the valve 15a, while a bubble vent pipe 17 is opened. The supplied water flows down onto the cast article 2 and also flows out from the pipe 17 and remaining bubbles are removed outside from the pipe 17. When the bubbles are removed completely, the pipe 17 is closed and inspection is started. An ultrasonic wave from a probe is transmitted through the water containing no bubble and running at a fixed speed and reaches the cast article 2, and thus accurate ultrasonic inspection can be executed. |
