PURPOSE: To provide a simple and direct method, which does not generate a liquid waste, for manufacturing a fritted fuel pellet from a metal uranium. CONSTITUTION: A metal uranium is oxidized to U3 O8 and the oxide is broken, and after it is reduced to UO2 , activated by at least one-time of pulverization process (or, in the opposite order, deduced after activation), or, after it is reduced to the UO2 , activated by at least one oxidation-reduction cycle, and the obtained UO2 is press-worked for formation and fritting. The obtained intermediate powder is of high density and can be molded, in addition, no intermediate pre-process operation is required.
