<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a vertical type modulation system photovoltaic sensor improving the upper-limit value of measurement voltage. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 3 and 3' applying electric field to an electro optical crystal 4 are provided at transparent substrates 6 and 6' which are different from the electro optical crystal 4 and the transparent electrodes 3 and 3' and the electro optical crystal 4 are laid out so that they do not contact directly. Light entering from a polarizer 1 is applied to the electro optical crystal 4 via a 1/4 wavelength plate 2, the transparent electrode 3, and the transparent substrate 6 and is light-modulated according to the measurement voltage which is applied to the transparent electrodes 3 and 3'. Since the transparent electrodes 3 and 3' and the electro optical crystal 4 are laid out so that they do not contact directly, the measurement voltage does not depend on the withstand voltage characteristics of the electro optical crystal 4 and those of the creepage, thus improving the upper-limit value of the measurement voltage. Also, the transparent electrodes 3 and 3' can be mounted to the 1/4 wavelength plates 2 and 2' or the polarizer 1 and an analyzer 5.</p> |
