PURPOSE:To provide a non-aqueous lithium secondary battery excellent in the cyclic characteristics by subjecting manganese dioxide having a certain specific surface area to an acid treatment, and using it to prepare the resultant manganese dioxide containing Li2MnO3 as intended. CONSTITUTION:To manufacture an intended manganese dioxide containing Li2MnO3 through a baking process for a mixture of manganese dioxide and lithium, a manganese dioxide is used as starting material which has gamma-type crystal structure with BET specific surface area ranging 150 to 500m<2>/g and which is subjected to an acid treatment. Thereby granular growth is suppressed to form the resultant Li2MnO3-containing manganese dioxide which consists of particles of the sizes below 5mum, has a high rate of surface area, and is highly active in electrochemical terms. This material is used to a positive electrode while lithium or lithium alloy is used to a negative electrode, and a non- aqueous type electrolyte is used, and thereby a non-aqueous lithium secondary battery is achieved which excels in the cyclic characteristics. |
