PURPOSE:To display the names of prefectures, etc., in a display area however the display area changes. CONSTITUTION:This map display device is equipped with a global positioning system(GPS) 1 which detects its position, a map data memory 2 which stores map data, and a place name data memory 3 which stores place name data to be displayed on a map together with the display positions of place names and calls map data and place name data corresponding to its detected current position to display the map on a display unit 11. This device is equipped with a display area name storage means which the name of the display area together with area data indicating the area of the display area name and a retrieving circuit 4 which retrieves the corresponding display area name according to which area data its current position is included, and the retrieved display area name is displayed at a specific part on the display unit 11. |
