PURPOSE:To provide an appropriate pupil edge detection corresponding to the change in the diameter of a pupil by changing the position of an irradiating light based on the pupil diameter change. CONSTITUTION:An irradiating section 6a irradiates an infrared beam to an eyeball 100 of an observer who observes an object through an optical observation system 1 in an approximate frontal direction and an irradiating section 6b irradiates an infrared beam with a prescribed angle. A photometry section 4 outputs a luminance information which shows the luminance value of the object being observed and when the luminance value is less than a prescribed level, the irradiating section 6a emits a beam for a pupil edge detection of an eyeball picture and when the value is larger than the prescribed level, the irradiating section 6b emits a beam for the same purpose under the control of a control section 5. A photodetector 2 receives a reflected light and outputs an eyeball picture information and a detection computation section 3 detects the line of sight direction of the observer based on the eyeball picture information from the photodetector 2. |
