A method of lubricating a mechanical friction part comprises the following essential steps: 1) high density functionalisation of the surface to be treated, preferably to obtain 10<14> to 10<15> functionalised sites per cm<2>; 2) impregnation of the functionalysed surface with a liquid consisting of a silane and/or a silane solution; 3) condensation of the silane by heating in a neutral atmosphere or in at least a partial vacuum so that said silane bonds substantially covalently to the functionalised sites of the friction surface(s) to form a substantially monomolecular layer; 4) washing of the surface with solvant, to eliminate excess silane. The method can be applied for the lubrication of a mechanical friction part likely to enter into frictional engagement, and manufactured from a material suitable for chemical functionalisation.
