Such industrial processes often have to be monitored for accident conditions and these conditions reacted to. In this case the monitoring and control is overseen by a digital computer with a suitable program. Input to the program to control the industrial process arises from operators. remote sensors and automatons. Activities are carried out by the operators and automatons under instruction from the program. The computer memory contains a large number of possible arising situations and conditions and a large number of possible consequent action and the processes that must be undertaken to carry them out by the operators and automatons. USE/ADVANTAGE - Because of the large amount of data required for monitoring of a complex industrial process it is helpful to have a computer which can accumulate and act on all the information compared with alternative control systems based on even very skilled operators its is claimed that the computer based control system is more reliable and quicker operating as all the information is readily to hand and the computer program operator according to strict protocols.
