Portable unit 1, comprising a housing, a clip piece 2 fixed to the housing by a hinge 5, and spring means 7 which press the clip piece 2 against the housing for forming a clip which is suitable for being clipped over an edge 11, 13 of a garment 12, 14. The clip piece 2 has an essentially L-shaped part. The hinge is fitted at a distance from one leg 3 of the L-shaped part of the clip piece 2, on the other leg 4. The axis 6 of the hinge 5 runs essentially parallel to the one leg 3. The one leg 3 extends past the hinge 5.
