A fishing reel (10) has a bail assembly (42) on a rotor (20) having first and second bail arms (56, 58) mounted to the rotor (20) for pivoting movement between a first and a second position, a trip link (210) mounted to the rotor (20), cooperating structure on the bail assembly (42) and trip link (210) for moving the trip link (210) from a third position into a forth position as an incident of the bail assembly (42) moving from its first position into its second position, and a trip link actuator (226). The trip link structure allows repositioning of the trip link (210) relative to the rotor (20) in the event that the trip link (210) encounters the trip link actuator (226) as the trip link (210) moves from its third to its forth position thereby to prevent jamming.
