The adenosine derivatives which contain a sulfohydrocarbon substituent, as depicted in formula (I), wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 is a sulfohydrocarbon radical, the remaining R groups are non-sulfohydrocarbon radicals, and W is -OCH2-, -NHCH2-, -SCH2-, or -NH(C=O)-. Methods of preparing such compounds, as well as methods of using such compounds to treat ischemia or hypoxia in mammals and pharmaceutical compositions containing such compounds as the active ingredients, are also described. |
