In a process for producing the gaseous phase from a gas stock 1 stored in its liquid phase, the cold content thus released is conventionally discharged in a vaporiser 4 to the surrounding air. To utilise the energy involved, the production of the gaseous phase is coupled according to the invention by means of a heat exchanger 9 to a process 12 which generates waste heat, the heat exchange taking place via a buffer medium showing a phase transition and the exchanged quantity of heat being controlled as a function of the transformation temperature of the phase transition.
