1,090,483. Making clock and watch figures; turret lathes. JEAN SINGER & CIE S.A. May 7, 1965 [May 13, 1964], No. 19324/65. Headings B3A and B3T. A method of making watch and clock figures in an automatic lathe comprises the steps of mounting on an indexable tailstock member of the lathe a bar of metal having a cross-section corresponding to the outline of the desired figure, turning two spigots on the end face of the bar by means of a rotary lathe tool or hollow milling cutter mounted in the headstock and then cutting off an end piece of the bar, to give a figure of the desired thickness, by means of a milling cutter. Fig. 6 shows the second stage in the method. A first spigot 2a has been turned on the end face of the bar 3 and the second spigot 2b is being turned by a rotating lathe tool 6. The bar is then fed lengthwise and a piece is cut-off by a saw 7, Fig. 7 (not shown). The spigots may be drilled out. |
