<p>The invention provides a method of removing sulphur compounds from water not containing large amounts of organic substances by anaerobic reduction of the sulphur compounds, using electron donors. The higher-cost consumption of electron donor (feed) during the anaerobic reduction is reduced by an inhibitor being included in the anaerobic treatment medium, the inhibitor being more toxic to methane-producing (methanogenic) bacteria than for the incompletely oxidizing sulphate-reducing bacteria.</p> |
