Apparatus for removing oil from a water surface 3, the apparatus being suitable for being fitted to the intake pipe 30 of a towed hopper suction dredge and comprising a substantially rectangular collection plate 1 which may from an angle with a water surface 3. The result of this arrangement is that, as the apparatus is moved, the leading edge 2 projects above the water surface and the trailing edge 4 is below the water surface. At the trailing edge 4 the plate 1 is joined to a collection chamber 34, 35, 36 which communicates with an extraction pipe 41 running in the upstream direction, which can be connected to the intake pipe 30 of the towed hopper suction dredge, so that the water which has entered the collection chamber can be drawn out together with the pollutants.
