PURPOSE:To obtain a new antitumor agent exhibiting specified physicochemical properties, capable of inhibiting farnesylation of a ras-protein and exhibiting an inhibitory effect on propagation of a human-derived cancer cell, etc., by culturing a Loculoascomycetes belonging to Setosphaeria. CONSTITUTION:A Loculoascomycetes (e.g. Setosphaeria khartoumensis MCI No. 2608 strain) belonging to the genus Setosphaeria is cultured. From the cultured material, a bioactive substance composed of a yellow powder, having 690 molecular weight and C35H46O14 molecular formula, exhibiting an absorption maximum at 209nm in an ultraviolet spectrum measured in methanol, having main absorption peaks at 3440, 2970, 2940, 2880, 1740, 1654, 1468, 1380, 1280, 1259, 1182, 1140, 1016, 987, 951 and 702cm<-1> in its infrared spectrum, soluble in methanol, ethanol, propanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform, benzene and acetonitrile and insoluble in hexane, petroleum ether and water is isolated. The isolated substance is used as the active component so as to carry out preparation. Thereby, the objective antitumor agent can be obtained. |
