Process for producing new trimetincyanine dyes with general formula 1, where A denotes 1- methylpirydine residue 1-methylquinoline, 1-methylthiazole or methyl- 5,6-dihydro-7H- cyclopentadiene[b] pyridine, R denotes hydroxyethylene or chloroethylene group, or R denotes methylene group in case where A denotes 1-methylopyridine residue or 1-methylo-5,6-dihydro-7-cyclopentadiene[b] pyridine, while X<-> denotes Cl<-> anion or J<->, by condensation of quaternary heterocyclic salt, containing active methylene group with 2-formylmethylene-3,3-dimethylindole derivative, in the organic solvent medium in the presence of condensation promoting agent, characterised in that a compound with formula 2,3,4 or 5 is used as the quaternary level heterocyclic salt, containing active methylene group, while a compound with general formula 6 is used as derivative of 2-formylmethylene-3,3-dimethylindole, where R has the above described meaning, whereas absolute ethyl alcohol containing catalytic quantity of piperydine is used as a solvent.<IMAGE>
