The exercise appts. has a bed-chair (4) with panels, which are movable by a pivot around a vertical axis of the bed, which is positioned between two lateral mountings (3) of a frame (1). A horizontal frame is fixed to the upper part of each mounting by a support (12), with a displacement element along the rail of each mounting. A reduction-motor unit (16) is carried by the support and has an output shaft (17), and with pivoting elements around the horizontal and vertical axes. The motor unit is adjustable in height along the support. An exercise arm for attachment to the patient's limb is connected to the output shaft of the motor. Movable links connect the motor support to the frame to allow its displacement along and support on the rail, also having a stop element for the motor unit position. An electronic control unit for the motor has a keyboard (26) for entering programming data relating to the mode of application of a force, and the speed of displacement and the positioning of the exercise arm etc. The keyboard is connected to a control computer (27), which responds to the input data in real-time. A retro-active circuit includes a mode detector, and arm speed and positioning detectors, and connected between the motor unit and the computer interface.
