BREAK RING FOR HORIZONTAL TYPE CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To provide the break ring which is less failed by thermal impact after start of casting or peeling of corner parts at the time of setting and less forms groove-shaped worn parts. CONSTITUTION:The third component of the sintered body of an Al2O3-Cr2O3 type consists of a matrix continuous phase of the Al2O3-Cr2O3 type contg. zirconia of mainly tetragonal crystals having the molar ratio of yttria to zirconia within 2/98 to 4/96 range and the second phase flocculated grains dispersed therein. The matrix contains fine cracks which are controlled. The second phase to be dispersed consists of the flocs of the uniformly mixed parts composed of the matrix exclusive of the third component and the unstabilized zirconia. The matrix consists of 37 to 98wt.% aluminum oxide and 1 to 57wt.% chromium oxide and the third component consists of <=6wt.% partially stabilized zirconia oxide.
