A magnetic fixing element (1) has two active poles (3,4) which are applied on one principal face (13) of a smooth ferromagnetic piece (14). A central boss (6) is located in the plane of symmetry of the active poles. A mechanically operated lifting part (2) has an elongated part (11) guided with play on the magnetic fixing element (1) and co-operating with the boss (6). The elongated part (11) has at one end a support (12) mating with a face (13) of the piece (14) and a holder (15) fitting a section (16). The other end of the elongated part (11) has an extension (17) taking a coupling member (20) for raising of the assembly. USE - Handling of smooth magnetic pieces from a horizontal to a vertical position.
