PURPOSE:To provide an org. optical recording medium contg. a photochromic compd. in the optical recording layer, capable of reversibly recording, reproducing and erasing optical information and capable of non-destructive reading when the information is reproduced. CONSTITUTION:This medium contains a photochromic compd. provided with a photochromic and photoreactive atomic group X and an atomic group Y connected to the atomic group X directly or through a bond, not involved in the photochromic reaction of the atomic group X and with the absorption wavelength or intensity changed by the photochromic photoisomerization. Information is recorded by irradiating the medium with a writing ray causing the photoreaction of the atomic group X, and the information is reproduced by irradiating the medium with a reading ray in the wavelength range where the change in absorption wavelength or intensity of the atomic group Y is read. |
