PURPOSE:To improve the utilization efficiency of an external light by providing a metallic reflecting layer on a liquid crystal layer side of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:Two pieces of substrates 2, 9 are provided by inserting and holding a liquid crystal layer 5. One substrate 2 of the substrates is a transparent substrate. In the substrates 2, 9, transparent electrodes 3, 6 are provided, and by applying a voltage between the electrodes, light transmittivity of the liquid crystal layer 5 is controlled. A metallic reflecting layer 8 having a granular undulation in the horizontal direction against the substrate, and having prescribed surface roughness in the vertical direction is provided on the liquid crystal layer side of the other substrate 9. |
