The installation is in the form of a pipe or tunnel (B) formed through the full length of the weir etc. The internal surface of the tunnel presents a series of annular or similar sections, promoting turbulence in a flow of water through the tunnel and reducing its flow speed and force. The tunnel is defined by an elongate cylindrical tube wound as a spiral or similar, with a shallow overall inclination of about 10 per cent, and restricts the water flow rate to about 1 metre/second. The length and diameter of the loops of the tube vary according to the length of the weir etc. to be bypassed. USE/ADVANTAGE - By-pass conduit for weir, waterfall etc which allows fish etc. to pass safely through waterway obstructions with minimum effort.
