The method for evaluating transmission channels between a base station and mobile stations involves measuring the noise (B) on the inactive channels at the base station. At the base station and at the mobile stations one measures the field level (and eventually the error rate) on the active channels. Measurement effects at the mobile stations are transmitted to the base station. Finally measurements are taken, at the base station and the mobile stations, of the noise and interference during time slices of active receiving channels when there is no activity and no carrier signal.
